travel from Ella to Uda Walawe national park

Country forums / Indian Subcontinent / Sri Lanka

Hello - please can comeone help me with my travel
1) Bus from Ella to Thanamalwila then Tuk tuk to Uda Walawe national park - I cannot seem to find timetable for buses anywhere online or any idea of when they are of if it is possible
2) next day going from Uda Walawe national park to Unawatuna - bus to Eblipitiya? again can't see timetable anywhere

3) If not is there a cheapish driver or taxi to book this with or best to wait until I get to Ella?

Thanks grace

Hi Grace, I could totally understand your concerns while reading this. But for your understanding, it does not work that way in Sri Lanka. Please take your step forward and be here. The buses will start from stations in every corner of the country & would stop at every halt on their route. NO TIME TABLE OR ONLINE BOOKINGS THOUGH!
Can assist you with a cheapest driver. But im sure can not discuss this in here. Cheers & happy travels!

  1. plenty of buses but more frequent in the morning. boarding at ella: Might be standing room only in the first stretch, that is until some locals alight

SL is a third world country. Buses not necessarily follow timetable even if their is one

There is a tourist police information booth on Passara road just off Main st Ella. Their english is not great, but tell them you want to go to Tanamalwila and they will show you the buses that go there. The 9:30 am (ish) bus is a good one to catch - just be prepared for a crowded bus.

Thanamalwila to udawalawa , There will be buses from 20 to 20 min, if you miss one you need to wait 20 min :)
