trains / charting / current booking

Country forums / Indian Subcontinent / India

Hi,

*Note: I looked for a general post about train info, and didn't find one ... is there one ?

I have bought a ticket online this morning for this Monday, with the following details:

train#: 12190, 04-Feb-2019, class: SL, NZM - BNDA (Delhi to Banda).

I am listed as WL19, and I paid 360 Rs. When I paid, they gave a probability of 95% (CNF was the acronym I think ?)

I talked to two guys today, but I figured this is probably the best place to seek advice. I also read this online about "charting"

I don't really want to wait around if I can't get the ticket I reserved ... what are my options ? Is it possible to go for a more expensive ticket ? When would I do that ? Should I wait for this chart to come out, or is there anything I should do tomorrow (Sunday) ? How fast do you have to respond to get a "Current booking" ticket ?

Well on this train every class is weight listed at present. WL.... So 20 people need to drop out before you get your chance at a seat.. ..

You cant do anything but wait and see.. There is a later train as well that's up to WL56

what if I cancel the ticket and try for tourist quota ? actually where is that option online ? I'm staying in Paharganj right now, does it make any difference to go into the station ?

There isn't because it would be ignored by the overwhelming majority of posters. The basic principle is this: If you need to travel on a given service, in a given class, on a given day you need to book as far in advance as possible. Every time you vary one of those provisions, makes it 'easier' to get on a train.

That means there is a 95% probability that your ticket will be confirmed.

I don't really want to wait around if I can't get the ticket I reserved

What's your risk profile? You have a 95% chance of getting on the train.

... what are my options ?

Too numerous to mention. But they include a bus, a car, a flight.

Is it possible to go for a more expensive ticket ?

They are all waitlisted too.

or is there anything I should do tomorrow (Sunday)

You're asking too late. There is a quota of tickets (very small) known as Tatkal. You would have to join the scrum at NZM station at 10:00am.

what if I cancel the ticket and try for tourist quota ?

There is no foreign tourist quota on that train.

I'm staying in Paharganj right now, does it make any difference to go into the station ?

Only as above.

thanks buddy ! :)

so am I reading this right: if I am on WL and don't get confirmed, I have to cancel my ticket hjalf an hour before scheduled departure to get the refund ?

also this might be beyond the scope of anyone reading this, but has anyone had an error message when trying to install/launch the IRCTC app ? it thinks one of my devices is "rooted", which it isn't .....

No. The tickets booked online by irctc website get cancelled automatically (and refunded) if the passenger on the ticket remains waitlisted after the preparation of chart. Charts are typically prepared around 4 hours in advance, however trains which depart early morning will often have the chart prepared the evening prior, (Charting is the allocation of berths).

Use the PNR look-up to track the progress of your booking through the WaitList.

Funnily enough, there is still 1 berth available in 1AC on Tuesday, on the #12448 U P SMPRK KRNTI Hazrat Nizamuddin to Banda Jn
