Hi,
I want to book a train ticket, but I was wondering what the difference is between difference between a sleeper and second sitting. A second sitting is more expensive, but what's the benefit?
Thanks!

All you need to know: https://www.seat61.com/India.htm#classes
I suspect "sleeper" is not what you think it is.

Have you check on seat61 ?
You have a full chapter dedicated to India where you will find all the informations including ticketing.

Hi Aquila,
In sleeper, you can sleep at night on the berth. In sleeper, you will get a 5 feet 7 or 8 inches berth at night to sleep. In second sitting, you will have a seat to sit only, like in a bus. Generally, second sitting is cheaper than sleeper, yes it is cheaper. Where are you checking the price??
But wait, you should book AC class. In Indian trains, there are some classes: AC1st, AC 2, AC3 and sleeper. AC 1st class is best class, but a little expensive and not all the trains have AC 1st class. Then, we have AC 2 tier, which is second best class and then AC 3 tier, which I think is good, affordable class. Normal sleeper (without AC) is not recommended for foreigners. You can travel in sleeper if on a budget travel or if the journey is small, 1 to 3 hours.
Please feel free to ask for any help, question or suggestion.

Thanks for help. However, If I check the route Puducherry-Bangalore via cleartrip the sleeper option is 280 Rs, and the Second Sitting [2S] is 1035 Rs. Which sounds strange to me, because you would expect that a ticket for the sleeper is more expensive.

That is your fist mistake. Do not use Cleartrip.

That is your second mistake. You have entered Second Sitting but you cannot book that and the price you are shown is for 2AC.
@lifesupport,
Thanks for your explanation. Why is it a mistake to use Cleartrip? They are unrealiable?

Cleartrip has multiple problems, not the least of which is that it does not list all trains. And besides, IRCTC has a number of functionalities that Cleartrip does not. Over and above that, Cleartrip is simply a re-seller - its computer system fetches data from the IRCTC - so I would recommend everyone use the IRCTC.
I am giving you a link of Indian Railways official website. Check price, trains, timings and other things here. This is trusted and real as it is official website. If any problems, please feel free to write.
