Solo traveller looking for beach recommendations

Hello all

I'm hoping to go to SL as a solo traveller some time between Feb-April and had a question I'd appreciate any advice on.

I'm looking to go to a beach where I can a) go on lots of organised activities like trekking, diving etc. and b) that has a backpacker-orientated nightlife (I really want to avoid the GAP-year and package holiday scene, I much prefer places where there are maybe 1 or 2 late night bars where everyone gathers and you get to know people as opposed to ko-pangan-like 50 bars). Basically somewhere full of backpackers with lots of activities and a nightlife that's not too crazy. Somewhere like Palolem in India would be perfect.

I've heard Mirissa or Unawatuna might suit this? Or perhaps somewhere else? Any advice is much appreciated!
