Recent news for no change of route permit at Benapole?

Hi,

I'm curious to know if anyone has recent experience of crossing from Bangladesh to India at Benapole with out a change of route permit?
I understand that it is no longer officially required, but heard reports of Benapole officials being difficult. We're currently in Kulna, and I have no desire to go back to Dhakka and do the visa thing, then turn around and come back here again...

Does anyone have any experience with the crossings north of Benapole on that side of Bangladesh also?

I met a couple last week who passed Benapole border without any hassle though they did not have the route chage permit. So, dont worry. I never heard abot any use of this.

Thanks for the info Mohammad, that's a relief.
The word from other travellers here is still that a change of route permit is required, but I read in a 2009 guidebook that it wasn't required, so it's a bit confusing!

As for searching through past posts for this info, I did for 3 pages (one month of posts), but at internet speeds of 0.5kb/s and frequently dropping out a few days ago in Kulna, I decided to post my question, and get an up to date answer, after all isn't that the purpose of forums?
If you don't have a helpful, friendly post to make, why post at all....

Easy now, yes, the whole idea of the forum is to answer such queries, no matter how many times they have already been addressed before. Given the fact of the slow internet speed and other relevant circumstances, escalates the importance of the same query being asked over and over.
