Hi
on my way to Darjeeling and Sikkim i have one full day in Delhi. Maybe it would be an good idea to get my permit for Sikkim here instead of Darjeeling. Where in Delhi can I get the permit and how long does it take?
Thanks

I wouldn't bother, its no hassle to get a permit at the sikkim border. Getting it in Darjeeling involves going back and forth between different offices.
It took about 5 minutes to get our permits at the border.

You can apply for sikkim permit when you apply for your indian VISA, or else when you arrive in Sikkim Border ( Rangpo ) you can get it easily no hassel. you will get it in tourist lodge in Rangpo. there is a lady called "Cheten" or else there is another guy. In delhi you can get it in Sikkim House - Chanakya puri - Opposite of American Embassy.

Sikkim permit costs now
According to the Indian consulate in Munich (Germany) as of July 1st 2008 Sikkim permits when issued with the Indian visa in Europe are a hefty € 40.

And having by now been there is a five minute affair getting it issued in the "Sikkim Tourist Bureau" at NJP bus station (free of charge)

P.S: It's strictly "bring your own pen" or buy one outside at 7 Rs. Don't expect "tourist information" in this.
