North India - 4 weeks

Country forums / Indian Subcontinent / India

I know that this is a hard question to answer as everyone has their own tastes but..
I'm in India for 3 - 4 weeks, travelling in from Kathmandu. Can anyone give me any recommends?
and what's the transport system like - i'm wondering how far I can get and where to fly out of,

Thanks

Anya, what are the dates of your trip? When will you arrive in India? This can make a difference where to go. There's an overnight bus from Kathmandu to Varanasi . . . Varanasi is a great, but intense, place to start your Indian Adventure . . .

Hi!
Well, I defenetely recommend starting by varanasi which apart from having direct connection to katmandu, is one of the most fascinating places in India. Maybe you could spend your four weeks, going north to Delhi and Amritsar and then making your way down to Agra, through Rajasthan and Gujarat towards Mumbai from where you can fly out. Diu is a magical place to see the ocean again and relax a bit after such a long inland journey. Enjoy!

Post no. 3 is suspiciously like spam.
Recommendations for what to do & see in India depend a lot on what time of the year you're visiting. Places like Rajasthan, Agra, Varanasi are great otherwise, but absolutely horrid in the summer & monsoon months.

Thanks for all the advice. I'll be in India from the second week of September. I know that this is the end of the monsoon season so what do you think about the weather at this time of the year?

The weather should be getting increasingly "better"/drier from your arrival on. Some of my favorite (weather) times in India have been in October; the air is cooling; clear.
