Lower Mustang weather conditions

Country forums / Indian Subcontinent / Nepal

Hi, my boyfriend and I are planning to trek from Jomsom to Tatopani next week, but some Nepali people strongly suggested us to change our mind, due to current weather conditions (too windy and rainy for this season). Is there anybody just come back/with reliable information?
We also have to decide whether to go by plane or by jeep...any suggestions?
Thanks in advance

March/April/May is the best time for hiking treks in Nepal. Jomsom, Marpha and Tukuche are always windy in the afternoon. There is clear weather in the morning and might raining Ghasa to Tatopani hiking routes in the afternoon. I suggest you fly in at Jomsom from Pokhara and trek to Tatopani from Jomsom. If you want to avoid the road, have a look more information at http://www.trekinfo.com/forums/showthread.php?29117-The-beautifull-NATT-trails-on-the-Annapurna-Circuit/page6

Hi Pinola,
do not change your mind. fly to Jomsom and trek up to Muktinath via Kagbeni then trek back via Lupra... No problem at all either you flies first to Jomsom regarding high altitude ( most trekkers does do it). The weather would be fine, currently getting rain (snowing) most part of Nepal and seems going to stop (better). So personally, until next week the weather will much better(visibility).

Good Luck!!!

It is however true that the wind is unpleasant if you hike at the bottom of the valley after 11 am, from Kalopani to Kagbeni.

No direct experience with the current weather in Jomsom but it's raining in Pokhara right now and has done so for the last three days. I'm not sure about hiking from Jomsom to Tatopani though, you realise you will be just walking along the road for most of it?

There have been no flights to Jomsom for 3 days since Pokhara has been socked in with bad weather. Just as well to make a plan B. Check about road conditions first if you plan bus from Pokhara to Jomsom.

Hi again! Thank you very much for all your advice. Eventually we took a flight this morning to Jomsom, it was the first sunny morning in pokhara since one week (they told us), while in lower mustang they didn't have any rain. Today, we had a very pleasant flight, and a wonderful sunny day. Definitely worth it!
