Indian visa on arrival scheme to be announced!

The long-awaited VoA scheme is due to be announced tomorrow with 40+ nationalities being eligible for Indian visa on arrival. The choice of nationalities seems quite haphazard. If the information on the website below is correct, i.a. U.S., Australia, Israel, Germany, Japan, Ukraine and Russia are in, while most EU states are out (including i.a. UK, Italy, France, Poland). I wonder what were the criteria?

Norway but not Sweden...I see what you mean. Perhaps they did a survey of people who overstayed and the countries not included were those with the worst offenders. Brazil but not Argentina...maybe it's the countries whose people had the greatest rate of visa approvals...(per capita). I could almost understand not including the UK if it were on political history...I think I'll have a cup of tea (Ceylon) and rest my brain.

It will suit many, but not many who frequent traveller forums.

On arrival with four days notice, thirty days only; presumably single entry; but you can get two per calendar year; return or onward ticket is required; Biometric details of the applicant will be mandatorily captured at Immigration on arrival in India (that should keep the queue moving).

Was in the crush of NRIs (sometimes called NRGs here) arriving at Ahmedabad last night and talked about it with a few American NRIs (that travel on American passports and visas). Definitely not an item that they're interested in.

And noting again and reminding, it's only available at certain airports.

Let's just wait and see how it will all play out, shall we?

Well said Pirate. I sincerely hope UK National like me will be able to get VOA in Indian airports soon. For now I need go Indian Visa Centre here in London summit my application. For UK citizens Indian Visa cost around £92 UK pounds - $60 will be a cheaper option :)

Almost no EU countries, but the Kingdom of Tongo (sic), Niue (I had to look that one up...) and Palestine qualify. Very sensible.

Well Bam - I only count 3 EU Counties and one EEA Country Norway can get VOA on Arrival - Amazing. Tongo I had look that up my self too - only around 100.000 ppl that live in that Kingdom :)

I was at the New Delhi airport last month. They open many window for visa on arrival but no one use it. I think is totally work out. The normal visa lines were so slow. We waited like 2 hours.
