Hi I am due to travele from the uk to india in November. I was just wondering if someone could help me with regards to obtaining a tourists visa. Is there a recommended website to visit to obtain one?. How long does one take, and what sort of information would I require? Do you think it would present a risk, obtaining the tickets, before having the visa confirmed?

Also one of my companions, holds a pakistani passport. Is there a different procedure in obtaining a visa for a pakistani national, or can they apply in the same way?

Many thanks,

"Is there a recommended website to visit to obtain one?."

visit the webpage of the HCI (high commission of india) that services your area and read everything there.

you should always get the visa first before purchasing a ticket. show the officer a confirmed booking...

there are different forms/requirements for pakistanis. the relevant information should be on the website so google it. it could be significantly more difficult and/or require extensive processing time.

happy travelling

That last comment is very trenchant. We have a well regarded regular here who was effectively excluded because of his origon. Its rather sad. Expect significant delays in this regard..

Hi there is a new system now in place for obtaining visa for India. It is less hassle then going to the Embassy (Callers are now not permitted to get visas from the Indian Embassy) The website is clearly visable on the Indian Embassy website. The easiest way for you is to take your completed forms to a travel agent who deals in visa service and there is a small charge. Visas are easily obtained and there is no reason why you cannot purchase your ticket and then get the visa. This normally takes around 2/3 days. If posted it takes two weeks. As your friend has Pakastani origion it may take a few extra hours for his visa again use an approved agency. If you are in London I can give you the name of a good and reliable visa agent and they charge only £15 plus £5 special delivery to return your passport. The visa form is very simple.

hello, sorry to jump into this thread but i need to get a tourist visa within the next week or so and i'm wondering what the best way is. I live in Bristol so I could make the trip to London (twice?), but seeing as this involves a train fare I think I might as well use an agent. Could you let me know your agents' details. I presume I could send everything to them and they could take it from there.

Thanks!

Hi I am trying to fill out the visa form. I do not currently have any hotels booked, yet the form requires an address in india, is it possible to just put any random addrsss in here, or would this be checked? Also the same applies for two names of indian referees?? Many thanks,
