Lalapeja,

Unless you have family in India it is very hard to get a visa for more than six months. Even with a long term visa you have to leave and return every 6 months anyway.(But there are exceptions of course).

A tourist visa does not allow you to do volunteer work. Mostly its not a problem but if the organisation you are working for hasn't paid off the cops there can be trouble. Most volunteer outfits in India are unashamed commercial operations and so you have to pay, pay a lot, to volunteer. India has no shortage of skilled people and people without skills are basically just a drain on the operation.

Just before your 6 months visa runs out you need to leave India and apply for a new visa. It can be done in Nepal but this sounds like a nightmare. BKK, SIN and KUL are better but Germany is so close to India why not just pop back home and get a fresh one? Getting visas is always easiest to do in your own country.

Germany is so close to India

Huh ? Close to India ? Don't think so unless you are thinking of how close Germany is to my heart.

hi lalapeja,

paid job is banned for a tourist visa in any country, but there is no problem in doing a service at
an ashram or an NGO. india is a third world country, and labour is cheap, so no organisation in india needs a foreigner as a volunteer, unless there are some financial benefits. but there should be some organisation where you can stay for free and get free food in exchange of your work. what exactly are you looking for?

thanks
deva
