Indian Fiction

I'm trying to track down the title an author of a book set in India in the 70's (I think) and with I assume an Indian author.
It involves four different stories that all link in some way. I met several people reading it and lost the details. I thought it was called Out of Bounds or something like that, though that could have been the translation of the title in Norwegian because I got that from a Norwegian girl that was reading it.

Any help appreciated.

You don't really give much to go by do you OP. Maybe set in the 70s and just maybe by an Indian author - or not.

Could you be talking about "A Suitable Boy" by Vikram Seth ? Awfully lengthy tome about 4 families which the people you saw reading it, must have gone on and on and on reading? It was translated into a few languages.

No not A Suitable Boy, thanks for trying.

:-( Nothing as exasperating as trying to track down a song when you remember half a line or a book with a vague outline of the story.

You know there is a book called Out of Bounds by Beverly Naidoo which is a collection of stories - however it is set in South Africa during the apartheid.

Now that you've piqued my curiosity, if you find the name of the book, do come back and post it.

Yea saw the Naidoo book and got excited when I saw the authors name. Still searching.

Safari_nightmare (really??) ; you've got me totally hooked to find out the name of this book.

Maybe if you go to sleep thinking HARD about it, some lost thought somewhere will float up and through:-)
