I am trying to get current dates on Festivals in India, in the Kerala state ( or surrounding states ) for this October 2008. I have visited Kerala Tourism website, ( no dates! ) also India Tourism ( heaps of festivals, but scant on info on dates. I am aware they are tied to the Lunar Calender, but still cant get definite dates. Suspect the local festivals may be a random occurance.

Use the Lonely Planet to find a good hotel in the cities you are interested in and call them up to see if they know the dates.
We used printed tourist info for the Elephant festival in Jaipur, only to find out it was wrong. When we walked into the hotel, there was a huge poster with the festival dates on it. The people running the hotels should know the dates.
