India-Pakistan boarder crossingCountry forums / Indian Subcontinent / Pakistan
I would like to travel from India into Pakistan but have heard that there are some issues. One backpacker told me that he had the same plan but was turned away at the boarder because he had a stamp from India in his passport. Has anyone else heard of/had this problem and if so, is there any way to get around it?
There's only one border crossing and if you're coming from India it's fairly likely you'll have 'stamp from India' in your passport. You'll need to apply for your Pakistan visa in your home country, and get to the border early. And, the story normally involves a stamp from Israel. Go figure. | 1
I don't believe the story from the back packer, many tourists come to Pakistan via India & we have never heard of such story,i think its just a story it has nothing to do with reality. | 2
Load of cobblers, crossed this border several times with a passport full of Indian visas, never had a problem............... | 3
What crap! I have crossed the border a lot of times with quite a few Indian visas in my passport. | 4
This story is not true. Many travelers come from India and having Indian stamps on their passport and cross through Wahga border into Pakistan without having any issues with the immigration on the border. | 5
Thank you all so much. This has been very helpful. | 6
You are welcome. Enjoy your trip to Pakistan. | 7
If you are coming from India it will be no surprise to the border officials that you have a stamp from India in your passport. I did exactly the same and the Pakistan border officials showed no concern at the fact I had an India visa in my passport so no issue at all. | 8
There's no logic in what you're saying. If that backapacker, or anyone, was entering Pakistan overland from India, he must have had a stamp from India. If he hadn't that would mean he entered the country illegally. There's one border crossing at Atari/Wagah. You shouldn't expect any problems if you have your passport and visas in order. | 9
This is not true story, many tourists cross this border every year, we never heard such story from any of the tourists who entered into Pakistan through wagah. | 10
I crossed the border 2 weeks ago, and I had no problem at all. Everything is straightforward as long as you have your visas. | 11
Now it is confirmed and clear with the first hand experience of lidoire. | 12
Yer, everyone else has kind of nailed this already but - if you have valid travel docs for both countries the border shouldn't be an issue at all. I've crossed it many, many times in the last eight or so years and I have stamps from all over (not Israel) and never, ever had an issue - must have been another problem faced by this traveller and maybe he just wasn't willing to fess up. The India border guys are a bit pricklier than the Pakistanis so it can be an irritating process but if everything's in order they're usually perfectly pleasant so can't imagine an issue coming from India unless you had incorrect paperwork. Try to avoid bringing Indian rupees from the Pak side - the India BSF like to roll travellers bringing more than a couple thousand rupees over - ostensibly to avoid 'counterfit' currency - and when you go from India to Pak you tend to get a better exchange rate from the money changers on the Pak side if you want Pak rupees. Not a great rate but enough to get you to Lahore. They will find you... :) | 13
