Furniture shopping in Jodhpur

I will go to Jodhpur soon to buy some furniture and have it shipped to Mexico. I was told by an American guy that I know and lives here in Mexico during the winter, that Suncity arts exportes and Haswani Handicrafts are good shops and serious. He said he used to import to the United States containers full of furniture quiet often and that he had a house in Jodhpur. He use to have shops in the US. That is what he tells me, but no more really since I dont know him that much.
However I had been reading some reviews about most of the big shops in Jodhpur and all of the foreigners have had terrible experiences. No shipping. shipping other things, merchandise getting to destination all broken, etc Basically nothing more than scams.
Have anyone had any experiences with any of these two shops? There is no reviews on the internet about these two shops. I mean I am asking to the foreigners who had been in Jodhpur. Not the owners of the shops or tourist guides from Jodhpur.

I think you are unlikely to find someone here who has purchased furniture from one of these two vendors.
I purchased furniture from an online vendor while living in India. The furniture arrived damaged. When I called the company, they decided to send a representative from the company to investigate the damage. The representative, a college-aged boy, traveled two days by train with a backpack containing only a single screwdriver. When he saw the extent of the damage, he called the company and asked them to send a new one.
I can't imagine how a claim from Mexico would be handled.
Furniture is not so cheap in India, and there is a small, albeit growing, market for furniture in the country.
Is there a reason why you want furniture from India? and why Jodhpur? Most cities in India have furniture makers. When a hotel is being built, furniture makers will often live at the hotel and build furniture there. In some regions, like West Bengal, you can find great cane furniture, which are lightweight and would cost less to ship.
If you are interested in "sheesham" or rosewood furniture, please be aware that it is on IUCN's red list of endangered species, which creates ethical and potentially legal restrictions for its export.

In any case with a new business contact I would sure want to see proof of shipping before I left that city..

I think the days of shipping heavy items are over. Many years ago, you could buy a Volvo in Sweden, or a Mercedes in Stuttgart and drive it all over Europe for 30 to 60 days (I forget) and save on taxes. The company took care of the shipping for free. I don't see any offers like that anymore. My bedroom set was made in Mexico. I'm sure it would have cost more for me to buy it in Mexico and haul it to the USA. Same as carpets, I was in Fez, and the merchant wanted to sell me a $3000. carpet and he would ship it the the USA. I don't thinks so. Persian carpets are better and I can get them here without the worry. Think small packages these days.

I disagree with you to be honest. Two years ago I bought a bunch of thinks in Marrakesh and then shipped over to Mexico and it was shipper than actually buy from a big one of those big import stores in the US.

Good to hear. I'm not saying it can't be done. Only, caveat emptor.

Well defenetly is not like it used to be. The prices in certain goods seems to be more standard now
