finding a homestay shimla, mcleod, mandi or manali?

I am wondering if anyone has experience or recommendations on finding a homestay in Himachal Pradesh? We are traveling from Delhi to Dharamsala via Shimla, Mandi and Manali (that is the loose "plan") We are hoping for an authentic india homestay. Also, any recommendations on places not to miss in that area.

Lots of locals in Mc Leod ganj offer homestay. Just ask around. You can ask the people at Mayur cafe, on the road to Bhagsu, or Subash, the owner of Moonlight chaishop (Bhagsu road), they might be able to help you.
