Drones on EBC Trek - still an issue ?

Country forums / Indian Subcontinent / Nepal

I know about a year ago there was an issue with drones in Nepal and I was wondering if the situation had changed at all ? I noticed someone flying their drone on Nagarkot and had it take away, footage checked and then returned with a smile.

I noticed that a licence isn't required if it is under 2kg but that other permits may be required and if so are they easy to obtain in KTM ?

Any issues coming in through Customs with it ?

Thanks !

Hello Kevin,
As far I know the drone is not allowed. I have read about 2 months before a newspaper, one group had arrested by police near Beni...

Good Luck!

Hi Kevin,
I am just searching the same topic.
If your drone is under 2 kg but you want to use it on your trekking trip, you need a permission.
We are quite disappointed as we travel to Nepal in 2 days and it seems it is not possible to get a permission online and we won't have enough time in Kathmandu before we start our trek. We wanted to bring a DGI Mavic.
Check this out: it is detailed but when you read through all steps and requirements, you realise it is a dead end...

i read disturbing news about flying one without permission so we are seriously discoureged :( Anyway, if anyone finds something helpful, I would appreciate it too.

Thanks Erica (and also to 'since1999'). I'm also using a Mavic Pro but I'm going to leave it behind on this occasion. I didn't buy it for this trip but it's still a pity it's so difficult to get permission to use them. Surely it would have shot spectacular photos and footage. Another time !
