After having completed my first visit to Sri Lanka, I must say that I was pleasantly surprised with your country. The people were extremely friendly and welcoming and it was easy to meet/talk with so many locals from all different walks of life - which was definitely a highlight of the trip. I especially got to meet some nice people while traveling third class on the train.

We are planning a 60-day stay in Sri Lanka and after looking at pictures and reading blogs, it looks like Jaffna will be one of the places we will hang around for a bit longer than most. We both love temples and the nearby islands sound fascinating. Most of all, we love to just wander around interesting neighborhoods, check out small shops and view the architecture. Any suggestions on areas not mentioned in the guidebooks to wander around?

I'm a 26 year old female from the UK, travelling to Sri Lanka independently on 27th November for 4 weeks.

I just wanted to see if anyone has any specific safety advice or tips for me to be aware of while I am away? I've read that Sri Lanka is generally a safe country to travel around however it is one of the first places I will be going solo and so anything that might help me be prepared and build my confidence would be very helpful!

At Tangalle, Henakaduwa Temple (the temple at the Eastern entry of the town on the main road) will hold its Perahera on the 16th September afternoon. It should start at 2pm from the temple. Ask Medaketiya and Madilla guesthouses where the Perahera will go through.
