Hello,
we're planning a trip to Sri Lanka with a 3 years old child.
We heard lots of bad news about Sri Lanka.
What do you think about safety?
Any suggestion for a trip with a child?
Thanks a lot
Ale
I've been using travel checks for probably 20 years during my travels but I ve been strongly advised against them in Sri Lanka. I've never taken neither mobile phone nor debit card or credit card with me. It's against my religion(especially mobile phone). However allmost everyone encourages me (tempts me) to take a debit card so I'll probably sin and do so. I,ve been told that Maestro debit card is not good (that's the one I have) since lots of ATMs in SL don't accept it and even if they do the…
Hi everybody,
I and my wife are going to arrive to Sri Lanka to Waikkal on 15th december for 2 weeks.
What are "absolutely must be visited" around Waikkal and Negombo and in the land ?
How much costs one day roundtrip in the taxicab with english/ german/ spanish /russians speaking driver?
Capitol Colombo is interesting place to visit? and safety in the daylight?
Are there place to look the tigers on freedom? Or something like Sri Racha Tiger Zoo ?
How about prices on clothes? f.e. jeans? T-shirts?

Just back from a month in Sri Lanka and want to pass on some info about the south coast in answer to some people's recent queries. Unawatuna has nice beaches, water and safe swimming. There are various decent places to eat there along the beach but my favorite by far is a place called "Hot Rock". It is run by a lovely woman named Rani, the seafood, curries, etc. are superb and her prices are lower than anybody else around. Her homemade barbecue sauce is out of this world. Unawatuna is however…
Hello Jan,
I had a pm from you in which you ask one or two things but, couldn't reply; a message came up saying ' error, the following user does not wish to have pm's' (or something similar). Is it me?
Anyway, now i'm in the water , may as well swim.
News yesterday; the government has banned 'Polus' in Sri Lanka (and its my favourite food). The idea behind it is that , after the 'polus' stage , Jack becomes a fruit and is naturaly 'bigger' the logic being that a larger food source can…
I am not worried about using my hand to eat with but being strongly left-handed I know it will be difficult to use my right hand and I will probably forget to.
If I use cutlery will that be OK - i.e. using fork in left hand? - or will using cutlery seem odd?
Should I take my own?
I really want to avoid offending people even though unintentional.
Any helpful ideas?
Hi, Planning a trip mid Jan. I'm a swimmer and my priority is crystal, clear, calm water - good for swimming for 30 mins or so. Can anyone recommend a beach/beaches in the southern part of S.L.? I thought Tangalle might fit suit, but have since read parts of it can have strong currents.
Also, I'm thinking of taking surfing lessons in Hikkaduwa - has anyone any tips or experience here?
Finally, has anyone experience of organised treks in the Hill country area? How many hours walking per day…
Hi there,
we're planning to escape the cold winter and go for two weeks to Sri Lanka in February. Most of the time we're thinking to relax on a beach, but then also, to travel around and see some inland Lanka. Therefore few questions...

What beach location would you suggest. We're thinking of the southern Lanka, like Hikkaduwa, Unawatuna, Matara, Tangalle... some place where it's not overcrowded, the sea is not too rough for swimming, and hopefully where there is something to do apart…
