I am taking an unexpected detour from India over to Sri Lanka and need to buy a guidebook once I get there. Does anyone know any bookstores in Negombo that would sell a new/used Lonely Planet (or other). I can go into Colombo if I have to so if there is a shop there, that would be a second choice. Please send name and address/directions if you can...without a guidebook it is hard to find your way to the bookstore!!!!
Also, does anyplace have good road maps?

I hold a swedish passport and are there for granted 30 days on arrival to Sri Lanka. But I would like to stay 30 days more, and from what I heard they've just changed the rules so that's not allowed.
Anyone know if this is true?
If not: where can I extend my visa in Colombo? (adress please)
if true: what is the punishment for overstaying the visa (at least 2 weeks)

In January I will be going to Sri Lanka on my own. I would like to do a little meditation or yoga, but with the emphasis on 'a little'. On the net I can find ampel resorts where they take care of your body and soul for 24 hours, but I do not want to miss out on the main attraction of Sri Lanka which is Sri Lanka.

Since I asked for some advice while I was planning this trip, I just wanted to report back that we had a wonderful time in SL. We were mostly interested in the cultural triangle area and Kandy, and spent the majority of our time there. The Dambulla caves were really stunning. And Polonnaruwa ranks right up there with Jerash in Jordan in terms of being a fascinating ruined city. Sigiriya was quite a climb, but well worth it. I know Yala's been closed for a while now because of fighting, but I recently heard things have been kicking off in Kataragama too. Has anyone been there recently who can give me any advice? I'd also like to go and stay in an eco lodge on the western outskirts of Yala as a base for trips to Bundala. Is this also not a good idea or is it just the park itself?
