Dear everybody,

Tomorrow I will be off to Sri Lanka. Instead of good bye, a word of warning. Two times I have reacted to posts or threads of people who mentioned specific persons in Sri Lanka. One of them was a post of someone who claimed to know a reliable driver. Both times I replied in the language of the county origin that was mentioned in the profile. Neither one replied to me.

Now maybe I am paranoid, but my guess is that the forum users who gave me the names and telephone numbers were…

Hi guys

I am planning a 10 day trip to Sri Lanka starting Jan. 15 and want to make sure I get in some good walking. What is the best place to head to for finding other travelers who would be interested in sharing costs for hiring guide/driver to some good hiking trails? Especially World's End, Adam's Peak. Some of the posts make it seem like there aren't that many backpackers in Sri Lanka right now-- can I count on most of those towns being pretty deserted by travelers in mid Jan? Or is there a…

Help, again.

Hi All.

Thanks to 'altona', 'onemorecoffee', 'travelinandi', 'Rod B' and 'witsas' for their valuable advice.

Friends, I have few more queries, if you all or anyone else could help.

Is english language convenient way of communicating in SL ?

Any suggestions for a week's travel there, like the must-sees. (Not much interest in beaches).

Yes, I appreciate all pieces of advice.

Thanks,

VJ

Getting around: We took a different driver on each leg. I actually would not recommend trying to organise a driver in advance. Doing it the way we did gives you the advantage of using drivers with local knowledge on each separate leg. Also if you have the misfortune of striking a driver who wants to take you to every crummy "attraction" en route, (where they will pay him a…

Help !!

Hi friends,

In Jan end I am planning a week's visit to SL on a budget. I would appreciate if anyone could advise me on the following points:

1) I shall be arrving around 2 in the morning. Which place is better to go: negambo or colombo, distance wise, transport wise and budget accommodation wise.

2) How much should I expect to pay for a budget single room ?

3) Is it safe to travel within the country ? I mean, from LTTE bombs.

4) Roughly how much cost per day inclusive of everything, (…
