Hi all,

We are going to to Sri Lanka soon, 2 adults and our 6 year old child and was looking for some info/advise on the following.

  1. Can you get a direct bus from the International Airport to Kandy, we arrive about 8.30am.

  2. From Kandy we want to go to Arugam Bay. Which would be the best way to go overland to take in 'some must' see sights.

What is the best currency to take. £,$ or €.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi - my friend and I will be spending this coming weekend (3 days) in Sri Lanka and being 'greedy' travellers, we want to see as much as we can... namely, Kandy and Galle / Weligama. We are two single females in our late 20s-early 30s, and fairly adventurous.

After trawling the internet for the past 3 days and sifting through travel blogs and forums, we still have the following questions. Would love some help with them!

1 - we arrive at 11pm at the intl airport... would it make sense to head…

Hi,
we have Emirates tickets for Mauritius but because of the weather in August, we are considering to change them to Sri Lanka tickets, so we have a couple of questions. We are interested in beaches mostly so I presume the ideal destination would be Arugam Bay or Trinco. Is the west coast and the south a definite no in August?
Also, since the trip from the airport to either place is quite long we'd like to split it, by stopping at Kandy or Unawatuna on the South coast. Are there bus services…

the Knuckles

Some of yours seem to consider that the Knuckles are a nice place to visit but hardly anything is said about it in my trvelguide. Is it easy to get to (from Kandy ?) ? Can it be visited as a day trip and in this case where exactly should we go ? What about the weather at the end of July ? Thanks for your help

I want to buy a prepaid card for my cellphone and use it to book rooms etc. Are there different companies? Which is the best option for 4weeks. How much is it?

This might be an obvious question, but I haven't been able to find a definitive answer.

What type of electricity plug is used in Sri Lanka? I have read that the British rectangular 3 plug one is used, however also heard about an old British plug with round pins known as type D. This plug was originally defined in British standard BS 546 and widely used in the United Kingdom until the late 1940s.

Will I able to get by with the current British plugs in Sri Lanka?

Thanks.

We are flying in to Colombo one late Friday evening in August and flying out on the Sunday morning. So we have 2 nights with one day in the middle and we'd like to completely relax before our long haul flight on Sunday. Looking for suggestions for a friendly beachside small hotel or guesthouse within easy reach of the airport.
Thanks

Has anybody been to Yala recently ? Is it fairly easy to get there ? Is it worth it ? Did you stay in a place you would recommend ? Thank you

Family trip is starting to take shape.
After a week in Unawatuna we are looking to head up into the hills.

If I am leaving Unawatuna on August 5th and will be flying out on August 13th, where would people reccomend I stay in between as I loop back toward the airport.

Still doing preliminary research at this point but the names that keep coming up are: Haputale, Ella, Badulla, Nuwara Eliya and Kandy.

Travelling with 3 young kids, looking to relax and hang out, walks etc, not so much the visits…
