A month ago I posted a thread about accommodation in Nuwara Eliye. Basically, we couldn't decide whether to stay at St Andrew's or at the Hill Club. So we decided to have one night at each, and the nicer of the two places, by far, is .......St Andrew's.

St Andrew's was $48 a night for a double, bed and breakfast versus $66 for the Hill Club.

St Andrew's - buffet dinner for $17 and buffet breakfast. Great food. Friendly staff. Nice room and new bathroom. Tea making facilities in the room. Very…

Hi
Does any one have any VERY current knowledge about whether it is now possible (or will be within the next 6months) to get a boat from India to Sri Lanka, instead of flying?
I can't find any information more recent than April when I believe the situation with the Tamil Tigers was different.
Thanks for any help

Hi there,

We are seriously thinking of travelling to Sri Lanka in Feb 2010 - for 3 to 4 weeks with our 2 and 4 year olds. We have done quite a lot of 'off the beaten track' travel in Asia prior to having children (this includes India on several occassions) but this will be our first overseas holiday with kids. We would love to hear from others who have travelled to SL with young children.....or live in SL and have advice?

What things should we consider health/safety wise with young kids in…

Hey there,

I have recently been offered really cheap flights to the subcontinent and need to make a decision between Sri Lanka or India. I was wandering what the cost of travelling in Sri lanka (as a budget backpacker) is??

Is it the same as India?? In the past guest houses in India have cost me (single traveller) between R100 -150 and a meal about R30.

Whats the cost of living for a Budget Budget backpacker in Sri Lanka???

Janks

Hello there,

What is the weather like in south Sri Lanka and the highlands tea country in October?

We want to hit beautiful beaches of course on the southern coast but are unsure what the rain is going to be like. Will the beaches be gusty and wet with turbulent waves, mud etc? This can often be the case in the tropics when the timing isn't right and although rain can be a welcome respite from the humidity it can rain for days and take away from those sunny beach days you were hoping for. The…
