Hi there I am planning on flying into Colombo from Thiruvananthapuram in the middle of december (departure and arrival cities are able to change) I am wondering if it would be cheaper to book my flight now from canada (flights are looking like 13,000 INR) OR once I have arrived to southern India ? To be honest I though the flights were a lot cheaper is it a peak month to travel?

My partner and I have 6 weeks to go on our honeymoon. We would love to go to Sri Lanka. I'm just worried that 6 weeks might be too long to spend there? We are happy to travel around very slowly, i.e spending several days at each place, even up to a week. But would there be enough things to see and do, places to go, etc over 6 weeks, or would it be better to combine it with another country as well?

(FYI we've spent a lot of time in India already, including Kerala, but we'd be very open to going…

We're going from Ella to Kandy on the 9th September and want to reserve train seats in 2nd class. Can I do that in advance and if so from where (Colombo or Galle a week before hand, or do we have to wait till we get to Ella)? Or is there any way we can book them from the UK? Can we reserve actual window seats? Do the train seats have numbers, if so does anyone know which would be near the door in second class?
I have read the 'seat61' site but he doesn't really explain the specifics of this…

So due to my wife wanting more time on the beach! We do not have as much time exploring as I would like, so after 3 nights in Sigiriya we have 1 night in between going to Unawatuna.

My thought is early taxi to Kandy, then early morning train to Ella, one night there and then the bus to Galle.

is the train ride worth it to take such a long detour, obviously will not have much time in Ella. Or would it be better to just bus back to Cololmbo one night there and then head down the coast the next…

we land at 2 am in Colombo and have 14 days.Our 1st trip there. :
1-what to see and could be seen ;
2- driver or not ( would like them to try train)
3- safe ?

So it's finally come round..... My 6 month career break. First stop Sri Lanka.......now just need to contain my nerves......

So starting in Nagombo, guest house already booked, 2 nights to climatise then I'll make my way to kandy for a further 2 nights and then the plan is to blag it from there on in really and do a big loop.....No major time restrictions, no outward flight booked as of yet...... Planning on 3-4 weeks in Sri Lanka......

Any last tips or advice before I go? Any good hostel…

anyone any ideas? if not a direct route whats the best easily accessible route?

Next year we are going to Sri Lanka and will be visiting Minneria and Kaudulla Parks for the elephants and also Yala National Park for the leopards. Can anyone give advice on photographing the wildlife at these parks? What are the vehicles like and how close will you get to the wildlife etc. I'd like to know what photography equipment it's best to take.

Hey everyone,
looking for a way from Colombo airport to Kithulgala on halfway to Nuwara Eliya. Do I need to first travel down to Colombo fort and switch to a bus leading to Hatton or Nuwara Eliya or is there a direct connection? If so, do I need to book in advance?
Where would it make sense to book for the first night before travelling to Kithulgala the next day. Has anyone recommendations for a nice hote/hostel for acclimatization? ;)
