We are currently making our way back home to Australia and are going via Sri Lanka in December. We have heard there is a little unrest and gunfire going on and have read a couple of sites that advise not to travel through Sri lanka at all. Does anyone know if it is safe? We only have 3 days and are just wondering if we should travel around at all or stay in a hotel or not go at all??
Thanks

Just a small civil war in the countryside. Nothing for a tourist to get concerned about..

You could try scrolling down to previous posts. There's been a few lately, of people returning from Lanka, posting their experiences on here and all saying that they had a great time and no feeling of being threatened at any time.
My last trip was three months ago and really noticed nothing different from any other trip over the last few years.
3 days... land, head for Kandy, then day trips out from there. You'll see a little bit of Sri Lanka.
Rod.

Nothing to worry about - the LT get a little edgy from time to time and try to prove a point.. The only time we felt danger was on the last day in Sri Lanka where a suicide bomber tried to assasinate a minister (for the 13th time) and a bomb was placed in one of their stores. Security is very tight in Sri Lanka so you have nothing to worry about.

Yeah as always rod.b has only just been there and everything was okay ⦠make you wonder doesnâÂÂt it
And yes Colombo is so tightly cordoned that there have been over a 1000 dissapearances and kidnappings. see attached link (by white tigers apparently) channel4 ]
