Hi there, we are planning a trip to Udawalawe national park in December need your help/advise

What’s the best time to visit the park early morning or late afternoon/evening?

How much do Safari jeeps cost? is Rs.2000-2500 plus tip correct

What’s the distance/time to travel by car from Kataragama to Udawalawe national park?

A while ago I had got a brochure on a place called Selara River Hide Out & Eco Resort that’s near the park. It looked like a great place I called the number and the woman on the phone said that they had handed over the management of it back to the owner, any idea how I can book this? since I live in Colombo

Or any other accommodation options suggestions near Udawalawe national park, ideally not a 'typical' hotel in Embilipitiya, something more adventurous even a bungalow with a caretaker would be great

Thanks in advance

Hi there,

  1. We have been there reasonably lucky in the morning (big herds of elephants) and once not so lucky in afternoon. However difficult to extrapolate.
  2. Yes last April it was about Rs 2500. But add the park entrance including ranger, that was about Rs 1500 for 2 persons.
  3. Around 2-3 hours depending on weather and traffic.
  4. On the site of paragonholidays.com they recommend one budget place near the park. However for more luxury, they too recommend Centauria in Embilipitiya which is were we've always stayed and are happy with.

All the best,
