Hello!

Me and my wife are planning 16 days in Sri Lanka soon. We are going to travel without a driver or a guide. However yesterday we got ourselves rethinking of this-- should we take a guide in some parts or we can manage with public transport and trains? Here is our rouph plan:

Colombo ( no stay)- Anura (1 day)-PolonaruwaSigiriya+Dambulla (2 days)-Kandy (2 days)-Haputale( 2 days) - Nuwara EliaElla (4 days)- Tnagalle beach ( 3 days)

Need an urgent advice.
thnks.

I spent 2 weeks in Sri Lanka in Feb-Mar 2006. We used a driver for most of the trip, and were really happy about that choice. We did Colombo - Haputale - Tangalla - Mirissa - Kosgoda - Colombo. Used various drivers, for different portions of the trip, since when were were just sitting on the beach in Mirissa we didn't need someone on standby to take us into town or whatever. Just used tuk tuks as needed.

What I understodd from your reply is that ther is a possibility to rent a driver in any place you arrive to.

Hi Carbazol, my partner and I went to SL in June/July and we though was really wise to have a driver guide as I only stayed for 1 week (my partner kept on going for 3 more weeks surfing on the east coast)

Public transport are really bad! We took the train from Nuwara Elya to Ella but the driver S(Sunil) took us to the station and picked us up 3 hrs later on the other side. It is definitely a great experience. Wonderful scenery!

Sunil showed us places where we probably would have not been able to find without him. He is absolutely honest and reliable !

here is the e.mail address, just contact him for the price.

What I dont't understand from the answer is: do you need a driver or not? I try to explain...we travelled a lot of countries quite alwais using public transport....the problem for us is not how are but if there are.....because we think a driver is a confortable experience but to travel with local and local transport is the experience! Try to travel in India without catching a bus or a train.....only with driver.....you can tell me that is more confortable but you can't immagine what you loose!

So because we probably go to SL for 3/4 weeks....is possible to use public transport?
