Hi

With all the recent price increases, I am a bit out of touch with the current rates for a taxi or three-wheeler to Negombo from the airport. Can anyone assist? It used to be 12 US$ for a taxi and half that for a three-wheeler, but that has probably changed now. And where exactly do you pick up a three-wheeler? I know you have to walk a bit to get to them.

Thanks!

Sue

HI Sue,
I hope you're keeping well.Your time is getting closer, just got to get Christmas out of the way and you'll be there.

Tuk tuk from the airport.

You can walk out of the door, turn left and look for the old dark red public service FREE shuttle bus. Usually parked just before the coach park which is for the hotel transfer buses.
Just climb aboard and that'll take you into Katunayake and you can get a three wheeler there.

OR

Walk out of the front door. You need to turn right , but you can't. The security guys won't usually let you go that way . Anyway, you'd only be walking between all the armed guards and machine gun nests..
So, out of the front door and turn left. You'll see that the road goes about 50 metres, then swings around in a big U turn . Just follow that U turn and keep walking.
Ignore any roads entering from the left where there's an industrial park. Keep straight until you come to the big junction on the main road.
On the left corner at this junction is a grass verge and there's usually a few tuk tuk's parked up there.

I can't say what the price is either. Last time I used a tuk tuk from there he charged exactly twice the amount, that a Negombo tuk tuk charged to take me from Negombo to the airport. AS well as charging high, he didn't know Negombo at all so we had to show him the way. No fare reduction for that though.

If you have a problem getting a three wheeler. At that junction, you can turn left, then first left again and then left again at a small roundabout. That takes you into katunayake where you can get a bus or tuk tuk.
Rod.
