I will be in SL mid June for 2 weeks. It's my first visit. Intended to escape the rains by going south east, however the current travel warnings say that all the area around Yala National Park incl. Arugam Bay is no-go. Anybody been there recently for first-hand impressions? What beaches further to the South and West would be getting no monsoon rains at this time? Any part of the interior / hill country that would have fair weather in June?
Is it easy to hire a car with driver in these areas?
Thanks guys!

Hi,
June is historically an unpredictable month.
It's actually between the two monsoon periods which means unsettled weather around most of the country.
The south east area, around Yala has still got a travel warning in operation, from the British foreign office. Arugam Bay as been considered safe by travellers but if the FO warn against it, travelling there will probably invalidate your travel Ins. In spite of the warning,s many are travelling to Yala and have had no problems at all.
Regarding the weather... The south east is known as the dry zone because it ,historically, has less rain than the rest of the island.
In June, the hill country is also likely to be a mixed bag of sun, just overcast or rain.
Really, it's pot luck, If I were you, I'd go to Lanka, stay over night in Negombo, near to the airport and chat to locals and get a weather forecast for dfferent parts of the island. Then just take off to the area with the best prediction.
The normal pattern around the west and south coasts would be mainly sunny days and cloud building until it produces a good downpour in the evening.
Don't rely on the online weather sites. They , almost always predict thunder storms and showers. Probably working on the theory, that if they keep that prediction going, sometimes it'll be right.
Any reasonable size town you'll be able to find a car and driver Costs should be about 5500 to 6000 rupees a day that would include, the driver, the vehicle and fuel.
There's plenty of public transport, buses and trains are cheap.
