Hi,
I have to agree with udo1, You're trying to do too much. Moving around Sri lanka is slow which ever method you use.
Imagine the first day,
Land at Katunayake airport. At 7.15 am...... It will probably take an hour to get off the plane and clear customs and immigration. That gets to 8.15.... The shuttle bus goes when it's got enough passengers,l maybe a 15 minute wait ,, then the ride to Katunayake bus stand, maybe wait 20 minutes or so for the Kandy bus. Assume roughly 9.00 am.
Three hours journey probably arrive Kandy about 12 mid day.
Book into a guest house , maybe some refreshments, get a tuk tuk and arrive at the Botanic gardens about 2 .pm.
A stroll around the gardens can easily take three hours, and much longer if you enjoy the place as I do.
That leaves the evening to visit the temple of the tooth. I reckon evening is best time there anyway.

I'd be surprised if you manage more than that the first day and even if you did, far better to take it slowly and enjoy what you see rather than rush around , and really experiencing nothing.

Day two fine.

Day three, again I agree with udo1,
To get to Sinharaja from Kandy, you go through the hill country.
If you started early, you'd possibly get to Sinharaja and manage a short walk in the rain forest but you'd need a driver who was willing to work very long hours to get back to Negombo that night. That would cost more than a normal days hire.

I reckon the original itinery I posted would be much more feasible.

If you do spend time in Negombo,

Try that place for an ayurvedic spa. I picked up their adver4tising sheet when I was last in ther, back in Feb/March and the prices listed then were the same as this web site. May have changed a little since then but not by too much. They are excellent.

Thanks for your advice.

I have only 2 days in Kandy and it's difficult to get to all places. I just thought the Botanical Garden is only 6km away from the Central at first.

So i will spend Day 2 to the Ancient City; and the PM-half of Day 1 and some AM-half of Day 3 at Kandy's places before heading back to Negombo.

Is it possible to visit the Elephant Orphanage on the way back from Kandy to Negombo?

@Rod: thanks for the recommendation of the spa. I try to fix but could not make your recommended itinerary with only 02 days in Kandy.
It's a pity we have just so little time :-(

Thanks all again, and let me know when you're heading to Vietnam anytime.

Hi,
Yes it is possible to visit the elephant orphanage on the way back to Negombo.

If you have a car and driver it's easy, if you're going by bus, get the bus to Kegalle and it's nearby there and if by train, get off at Rambukana, then a short tuk tuk ride.

Time is about 1 hour from Kandy to orphanage, then about another 2 hours from there to Negombo.
Rod.
