Just adding a wee bit of perspective. Useful for all Thorn Tree subscribers.

You will note that Sri Lanka doesn't feature yet Thailand does..

I just wish that the air fares from the UK would get a bit more sensible. Then I will be there enjoying one of the loveliest and most interesting places in the world.

Hi Ian,
That article does put things in perspective a little.
It's a point I've been making to prospective visitors , who are worried about Lankan safety, for years.
You're absolutely right about the air fares but unfortunately, I can't see those dropping while Colombo airport is the only legal way into or out of the country.

I've heard Cornwall is quite safe and a nice place to visit.

Ha ha Rod ....
Yes, Cornwall is quite safe to visit. It's a bit cold and bleak down here right now though!
That's why I will shortly be escaping to Sri Lanka ... and you will be following close behind! I will continue to "take my chances" in Sri Lanka. I feel safer there than anywhere I have been, and more at home too .....
Thanks for your earlier reply to my query about transport costs from the airport aswell.
Sue
