Hi Hi hi!!

I'm planning to head to Sri Lanka early next year for around 6 months, potentially to work, maybe not - I want to surf and that's the main thing.

Given that my girlfriend and I are looking to spend such a long period of time there paying out a daily rate for a room, albeit as cheap as ten bucks a night will add up.

Does anyone know of any options for longer term accommodation? I'd like to be based around Galle where there's a nearby surf-scene - and will obviously look at Unawatuna/Weligama etc nearby...

It could be room/apartment etc.

Or does anyone know anyone who may be travelling abroad from SL and needs good, reliable house-sitters?

Hi,
I've never actually rented anywhere like that IN Sri Lanka so can't help much.
I've met plenty ofpeople out there that have taken on private rentals but never thought to query how they found them.
I know , if you do a web search you can find listings on the Sri Lankan estate agents pages but they are well overpriced. One other place you could look, is,

A good site for all the latest news, Information, just about every thing Sri Lankan.
If you open their site and read down through the list on the left you'll find a section for classified ads. There are often rental properties listed in therre.

BUT, I wouldn't do that.
As you seem a little unsure of where you'd rather be based,,, if I were you, I'd go out there, find a decent guest house, then look around for where you'd like to be, then when you've decided, ask around locally regarding a place to rent.
Not so sure about Galle being a surfing place. I'm not a surfer but I've been around the are a lot and if I was a surfer an where I stayed wasn't too important, I'd be looking at the southern side of Hikkaduwa, around Narigama area ( thats where the loca lads surf ) and if I wanted surfing on the south coast, maybe Mirissa.
There's no beach in Galle so any surfing from there would mean travelling with a board.
