Hi guys, I am trying to finalise our 4 week itinerary for December/January & (like everyone else) I need to choose between a couple of options as I am running out of days. We are a family of 4 (myself, husband & 2 young adult children). We will be using a private car & driver.
Could you please advise if I have things in a logical order & also which option below (1 or 2) is better to travel with in January?
NEGOMBO – 2 DAYS -cycle the canals, early morning visit to the fish markets
KALIPITAYA – 2 DAYS - Beach, kayaking
OPTION 1 - JAFFNA – 3 DAYS - visit Delft Islands, sightseeing
OPTION 2 - EAST COAST – 3 DAYS - Trincomalee & Nilaveli OR Uppuveli Beach
CULTURAL TRIANGLE – 3 DAYS - Anuradhapura, Mihintale, Sigiriya, Dambulla and
Polonnaruwa – cycle tour of the ruins, maybe visit Minneriya N. Park in the afternoon
KNUCKLES RANGES – 2 DAYS – some hiking (maybe overnight?)
KANDY – 2 DAYS
KITULGALA - 2 DAYS – White water rafting, walking/hiking
HILL COUNTRY – 3 DAYS - Nuwara Eliya –cycle tour of the tea plantations, hike to World’s End, Hortons Plain National Park, Udawalawe N. Park – Elephant Transit Home, OR, other N. Park
Ella –OR stay in Haputale & visit Ella from here
MARISSA – 1 DAY – Whale watching, Weligama – see the stilt fishermen
UNAWATUNA – 3 DAYS - Galle – day trip
Bentota – on way to Colombo
COLOMBO – 1 DAY - Pettah Markets, Fort, Galle Face Green, Cinnamon Gardens
Many thanks for your advice & opinions.
Willow.

I'd say Jaffna since the east coast having it's rough and monsoon season. But if you want to sit and relax and have an occasional bath trinco is good. In Jaffna there is not a lot to see but it has it's own unique feeling to it
cheers

Many thanks for your reply Madzibit. We will take your advice and look at an extra day in Marissa. The family have also asked for some extra time in the Kalipitiya area so that we can indulge in some extra snorkelling time. Jaffna might have to wait until next time (good reason to plan another trip!)
Best wishes, Willow.
