The cheapest flights I found to Bangkok was with Sri Lankan airlines, cost around 200USD.

A couple of airlines fly to Bangkok from Colombo .
Thai Airways is the most expensive .
Sri lankan Airlines flies 7 days a week at the moment .From BKK its about $ 180.00 USD each way based on a return flight and including taxes . They offer quite good fares on their website.
Singapore Airlines stops enroute to somewhere but you transit through Singapore and its expensive.
Cathay Airlines has for the moment stopped flying there.
All flights leave early in the morning and I dont mean 9am , usually its 2 AM or some horrible time like that.
When you arrive in BKK you can save money by taking the Airport Bus into the city. Its about $ 4.00 USD
