Does anyone know how much are they charging for the cheapeast tickets on the new ferry service from Colombo to India?
Thanks

LOL, there is no ferry. You can try swimming . There is the Fonz's water wings rental agency that is highly recommended. However, I heard it may go out of business since next to nobody returns the water wings after the trip. For that matter few of his customers are even heard from again, sharks?
Anyway, paddle on..

Hi,
Seems it's really happening at last after all the false starts of the last few years.

This article doesn't give the price though.
Rod/.
That link to the BBC news is just as absurd. It says: "The ferry that sailed between Tutucorin and Colombo was suspended decades ago due to the war in Sri Lanka."
There never was ferry service between Tutucorin and Colombo. What there was about 30 years ago was an old rust-bucket that plied from Talaimannar to Ramaswaram. On the Ramaswaram side, the water was so shallow that the boat had to anchor quite a distance off shore and dugout catamarans would paddle passengers ashore. This same ship would carry some vehicles which were lifted off the boat by rickety bamboo cranes and lowered onto two dugout catamarans lashed together on the Ramaswaram side.
Even if they get this service running between Tutucorin and Colombo, remember that Tutucorin is in the middle of nowhere.
Pirate's right! Don't hold your breath.

Again a delay it seems...Let's just hope they will not charge foreigners " tourist" prices like everything else in Sri Lanka.
Thanks for the latest info.

Well, fancy that,, the service has been postponed. Who would have thought that possible .

I have this dream, I will stand on the prow of the first boat to go along with a beautiful girl (my wife mind you). Wonder where I got that image..

India-Sri Lanka Ferry Service delayed
Friday, 13 May 2011 10:11
India-Sri Lanka Ferry Service which was scheduled to set sail from the Tuticorin harbor on May 10th has been postponed reportedly due to a low demand for the service from India. Sri Lanka's Ports and Highways Ministry has confirmed about this yesterday.
A ministry official has said that the delay was due to the lack of publicity given to the service in India.
Meanwhile, reports from India said that the, Chairman of the Tuticorin Port Trust A. Subbiah has told the BBC Tamil Service that the arrangements for the commencement of the ferry service have not yet been finalized due to port refurbishments still being carried out. All works relating to the start of the Ferry service will be over within the next 15 days.
Steps taken by the Indian government to send its ferry service vessels to evacuate the Indians stranded in Libya has also added to the delay in starting the service. (niz)
