Diwali Festival (Deepvali) Sri Lanka

Hey,

we will be in Sri Lanka during Diwali Festival (Deepavali) this year and I don't really know what to think of that.
i) Should we try to be at a certain place? We would be around Adams Peak or Nowara Eliya around that time. Or should we try to re-schedule and stay in Kandy for 2 more days in order to be there for Diwali.
ii) Will it be more difficult to find a free room in a hostel or will it have any other impact on the journey I am not aware of?

Deevali is not a widely celebrating festival in Sri Lanka like in India except Northern Part and Hill Country of the Country. So, there won't be any long holidays and shops and other places will run as usual (Not Sure about Northern Peninsula). Answers.
Q 01: If you want to see Diwali celebrations recommended you to stay in North. But, still it is not a big celebration in the island. Adams peak will not have any tourists at all during this season as the Pilgrimage season is December - May every year. So, if you want to climb Adam's Peak, it is advised to go with a local tour guide by packing all necessities and prepare for heavy rains as all shops closed in the way to Adam's peak. Nuwara- Eliya is a place which can be visited any time of the year and it has lot to offer to offer for tourists.

Q 02: Hotels should be available during this time.

Hi David,

We'd also be in Adam's peak/Nuwara Eliya during 30/31st of oct and had similar concerns.
It's nice to know that there would be atleast one more person climbing with us at that time.
If you want, we can probably plan it in a way that the adam's peak climb coincides for us.
Let me know if your plan is final and if you have a rough itinerary.
P.S. we are from India and me and my husband are travelling to srilanka
