Hi, I will be travelling around Sri Lanka for 3 weeks from the 10th Dec. Is it better for me to get my Rupees before I leave England or to bring pounds and exchange for Rupees on my arrival to Sri Lanka?

Many thanks x

SL Rupees are a controlled currency, I don't think k you can legally buy them abroad.

I just used the ATMs, but you will want to check how much your bank charge - mine is free. As long as you don't take the "do you want to pay in pounds" option, the rates in ATMs are very good.

If you want to take cash, you can change a bit at the airport then go into Negombo or Colombo to find a good rate at a money changer.

I think ATMs are the best way to go. Lots of ATMs all over SL.

Don't buy your rupees in the UK. Hard to find and a terrible exhange rate is almost guaranteed. Change your pounds in Colombo in the downtown area. As in most places, changing money in the airport is probably best avoided.
