Hello all,
Am in Una now but leaving tomorrow and heading up the coast - it is pretty quiet apart from weekends (not necessarily a bad thing I have to say!), but everywhere's ramping up for the December kick off. Depending on how long you're going to be here for, I'd recommend Amma's guesthouse if you're here for a long stay, Thabropani (think I'm spelling it right, next door to the Villa) if you're here for a couple of days (Rs1500 for a nice room; nice laid back staff too) - or if you've got a budget for luxuries, Hotel Flower Garden - really lovely.
Avoid at all costs Thilak at the far end of the beach (near the dagoba) - pretty seedy all round - can't recommend it all.

Brilliant. I'm going to Unawatuna for 10 days to relax just after Christmas and I spent ages trying to find the right accommodation. I've booked at the Hotel Flower Garden as it seemed a little more luxurious and I believe it has a large swimming pool (maybe you could confirm?) rather than just a plunge pool. I'm on my own (female) so thought it seemed a bit more secure than some of the beach front accomodation - would I be right?

Have you got any restaurant/bar recommendations?

Thanks

Hi rat,
I can confirm the flower garden. I stayed there about 3 months ago.
The pool is fine. Not olympic size but plenty big enough. Accomodation I had was small cabana. Again, plenty big enough, well furnished, clean and comfortable. Restaurant and food was exceptionally good. Probably, the only down side was that there isn't much room to lie around the pool but thats a small point. About 5 minutes walk to the beach and just far enough from the main road to be peaceful.
The cost is way above what I'd usually pay but I'd go there again and recommend it.
Rod.
