Chriss. Thanx for your answers but I'm still wondering what Sudha means. (I'm a teacher so I'm always curious about new words). And if you don't mind answering the question about power cut in SL. Is it sthg that occurs every day? Is the electricity pretty much everywhere in SL? Besides clothing, are there some other things you thing is good idea to bring to the orphanage(pens? books? any syggestions? I mean sthg that doesn't take too much space.) Take care. Jan

Hello Jan,
I suspect that you may well be a 'Sudha' . Sudha literaly means 'White' but,( i have only just found out that it is a coincidence) also means 'whitefish' or rather one particular type, very good actually.
What happens with the power. ; well, every morning around 9am , a man arives at the power plant and switches the power for Sri Lanka off and then on again, has a bit of a laugh and then starts work.
The effect is that all the photo coppie machines go crazy and everyone in sri Lanka with a computer has to get a 'u.p.s'
( a box that holds the power long enough)
Yes. orphanages are very happy to recieve any books, toys and smiling faces.
The one i went to with the balmy army is called the Sigithe sevana. Adress; Sigithe Sevanna childrens orphanage,
No3, Aruppola , Kandy.
If anyone would like to visit, better to find an appropriate time. We were planning for around 4pm but, were told to make it slightly later because of 'tea time'.
Closer to colombo i know of two more orphanages run in temples, where the orphans become monks .
Then there is the orphanage of the head monk of the tooth temple.
He has a web site at ; www vajira.com . colombo orphanage Hey Jan,send me your e-mail address?
best wishes
Chris

ALLELUJAH! I figured out what was wrong and I can receive PM again. Apparantly I had yes marked to the question "Do you want to receive PM from your address book only?" (there was nobody in my address book). Chriss, I'll send you my email anyway. Going back to jack fruit, if it's true (the government seems to deny it) how does the government justify the ban.? Do they give any reason for such unpopular decision?

Hello,
Thanks Jan. I think i got your e-mail address, just writing first.
The polus debate; Well everyone seems to think that it is banned. None on sale and people are smugling it home for meals. It was definately on the t.v news.
Just to give an idea; Theres been all the cricket on the radio and i've been listening everyday. I can hear the balmy army singing 'Jimmy's song' and the unforgettable-
'two hundred 'took too's' following me, swing low sweat chariot, comming for to carry me home,,,'
Took too's being the three wheel taxi's that had a field day with so many people at night in Kandy.
Anyway, during the lunch break, Radio Celon held a debate entitled 'abuse of women'.
They only had one caller who stated,' i don't think women should be abused'. So that was it, debate ended and good news for women everywhere.
There's no where like Sri Lanka best wishes
Chris
