Hello Jan,
I had a pm from you in which you ask one or two things but, couldn't reply; a message came up saying ' error, the following user does not wish to have pm's' (or something similar). Is it me?
Anyway, now i'm in the water , may as well swim.
News yesterday; the government has banned 'Polus' in Sri Lanka (and its my favourite food). The idea behind it is that , after the 'polus' stage , Jack becomes a fruit and is naturaly 'bigger' the logic being that a larger food source can feed more people. Apparently anyone caught eating polus will be fined.
This has lead to much concern and talk of 'what to do'. and how to 'sneeky way' cut polus without being seen.
The balmy army are also in Kandy and are a tribute to international relations. Whatever harm has been done by 'Sudha' , tourists and the like is being overturned overnight. esspecially the decorated Cristmas tree in the stand of the Asgiriya stand and determined singing by Joanne, Paul and Tim.
Best wishes everyone
Chris

I know I'm just a simple polish guy who is close to beeing computer illiterate. I'd definiately like to get PMs. So, was I so dumb and pressed sthg wrong and that's why I haven't got any replies in the last few days or my computer is acting up? Actaually I think some weird things happened since the new format of TT has changed. For a couple days until yesterday I got way over hundred messages in my email box,all from Thorn Tree from Indian Subcontinent section. Then I checked my TT folder and reads: Inbox 6/7 (6 unread, 1 read)and Sent 4/6 (4 unread and 2 read).I definiately read everything several times. At least no 100 TT messages on my email box today so maybe is gonna be OK. Sorry guys I know it's not related to SL section but is it me or anybody else has similiar problem with receiving PMs.

Minister of Health and Nutrition, Nimal Siripala De Silva stated in parliament yesterday (04th) that rumours are afloat in the country that the Government has enforced a ban on the sale of polos (tender jack fruit) which is in high demand both in rural and urban areas as a delicious dish, leaves of the manioc plant again a tasty leafy green, common vegetable and Kurumba (young coconut) a refreshing drink in high demand.

Sorry guys but could somebody help me with my problem receiving PMs. I've just talked to 2 of my friends who are using Thorn Tree and they,ve got the same problem. They also tried to send PM to me but it didn,t go through. One of them have just checked her email and found 736 messages from TT (all from Indian Subcontinent section) and also can't get any PMs. Is TT picking on polish people only(or area where I live) or any of you have the same problem. What can I do? Help. Muchios grazzias!

Yes this new format, may be squeeky clean but not to my taste. As for the news item. Everyone we know seems to think it was reported about Polus, its a big talking point, over here, I'm wondering how we can still get hold of it?
A shame about England today, more so because we had a power cut just as it was getting interesting. The main thing is that it was a entertaining game, everyone enjoyed it and the Balmy army are still celebrating tonight in the Queens hotel. Now, i'll do my best to find you Jan, in this myriad of 'progressive' technology.
best wishes
Chris

Is jack fruit and durian tha same thing? (smelly but delicious). If it's the same thing I know in some countries you're not allowed to carry it on public means of transport but how does the government justify the total ban on it? What's the fine? Are they gonna cut down jack fruit trees as well? Our ex prime minister(lost a month ago) was a total moron capable of such decision (jack fruit doesn't grow in Poland but he doesn't know about it anyway) but I thought he would be the only one. It makes no sense. Chriss, I hope I don,t sound too ignorant and that I'm not the only one but I have to admit that I have no idea what balmy army is (and "Sudha" as well). You,ve also mentioned power cut. I'm definiately used to it during my travels (if there's electricity at all) but I'm just curious if it's something very common in Sri Lanka. PS. There's still something ..... up with my PM folder. Love and peace to everyone.

Some news regarding Polos roumor. Polos roumor
I am sure that our (i am also polish) former prime minister know nothing about jackfruit-polos, durians, maniocs and other stuff - a year ago he didn't even know what is marijuana: "We must fight with marijuana. But does marijuana is made from hemp? I think it's not. At least i don't know anything about that. Anyway i don't know how do you connect marijuana with hemp. We absolutely have to fight with hemp, fight with drug use"

Hello Jan an all,
You Polish people sound fine to me. The 'balmy army' are the English cricket supporters, they are really good. after loosing in Kandy they sang 'Jerusalem', +'and did those feet in ancient times' ect.
The three that I got to know as freinds today bought lots of toys and stationary and cricket gear and visited a childrens orphanage in kandy,(i wish i could post a picture here) had a game of cricket with all the children and made an early Christmas for them.
The one thing that the orphanage really needs is clothing for the children, so if anyone listening is comming to Sri Lanka, childrens clothes (seconds or too small) are very welcome. I can't remember what else i should comment on in the 'thread', because now we can't see what we are suppossed to be answering.
Anyway, all the best to you lonely traverlers, hope to see you all over here.
Chris
oh yes , no jack isn't the same as Durian, at the really good stage, it is a vegetable and tastes like meat, made into a curry and is great!, best wishes

I am quite distressed by this Polos news. Did they really ban polos? What next? Thabili (coconut)?

Chris
Can you post more information about the orphanage i.e address, how to send clothes etc?

Hello,
I have the address here but in Singalese so will get my wife to translate and post tommorrow.
There is another close by in Kandy and then others that i can find.
I had great fun, a game of cricket with the children , but they really do need better clothes. You should visit it will be one of the highlights of any trip to Sri lanka, or send by sea mail.
Another option; the head monk of the tooth temple has an orphanage near to Colombo (i'll give the info tommorrow .when i have more time off line) and he is building an orphanage in Kandy and donations are welcome, so get in at the beginning and you will have freinds for life!
post tommorrow, thanks and best wishes
Chris
