Hi all
Can anyone recommend a nice inexpensive place in Colombo for a few days, I arrive about 9pm in the evening and would prefer to have a place to head to rather than search around on the night after arrival and not fight off the touts!

Hi,
Are you arriving in Colombo or in the airport at 9 pm. I think you're aware that the airport is near Negombo, not Colombo. In Colombo the YMCA is a nice place to stay near the centre and about the cheapest you will find.

Most people stay in Negombo which is near the airport. There are plenty of places to stay. Check out something like booking.com for a few hundred.

Taxi from airport to Negombo will be about 1800 rupees. Tuk tuk is cheaper, but you need to walk away from airport as they are banned from picking up outside.

If it were me at 9pm, I'd stay in Negombo for at least the first night.

US$45 for a basic room in and I don't mean to sound patronising, but Sri Lanka is hardly a developed modern country & $45 does sound rather high for a "basic room"
