Hi
I’m currently in Sri Lanka and loving every minute of it including the cooling rain. I’m thinking of going to the South beaches but I’m slightly concerned that with the weather there won’t be much to do. I would like to do get some surfing lessons and possibly yoga – is that possible? Also, in terms of accommodation, I don’t mind staying in pretty basic accommodation with nice views etc, that is popular with people but not overcrowded and is good value. Any help would be appreciated

Many thanks

Marissa to Waligama there are a few local surf resorts on the ocean side of the road. Marissa is really a beautiful little bay with nice slow waves. There is also a small surf resort in the corner. Would avoid Hikkaduwa and just continue down the highway past Galle. You will find some really neat stuff.

Sorry but I disagree with the previous thread. Hikkaduwa has a lot more to do than the beaches further down the coast. More surf and more places to hire surfing gear from. Also good Yoga teacher - Lydon at Kalabah (not sure if the spelling is correct) Apartments, there is a big yoga sign at the front, it is jungle side on Galle Road. Many places to choose from to stay at varying prices, just arrive a check a few out. For a good surfing instructor go to the library on Galle Rd, Wewala and ask for Gamini, he has been around for ever and has good english. All the best, enjoy.
