Hi guys, I've been offfered a job for a year in Matara, south Sri Lanka and could use any info about the town and surrounding area. If anyone's been / going / is already there let me know!
Thanx PP

I'd be off like a shot. It is a sizeable town, not especially attractive but it has lots of great beaches nearby. It is the end of the coast railway line from Colombo which takes about 4 to 5 hours. You would be able to get everything you need in the town and it has excellent bus sevices east and west as well as north into the hill country. Not too far from Uda Walawa National Park, lots of elephants, or Yala, east along the coast, the largest accessible national park. Some surfing in the area but you would be able to get to Arugam bay on the east coast if you are into surfing. There's a small ex-pat community, I believe and some tourists would be passing through, but on the whole you would be in real Sri Lanka. Sounds good to me - get the contract signed!
