Hello.. I'm pretty sure my husband has dengue. We're in Ella and going directly to Kandy today via car. Can anyone advise the best hospital in Kandy to get him checked? There's a big teaching hospital and a private one? We could also go to Colombo if that's a better option. We're travelling with our younger kids, so trying to get this all sorted without causing alarm! Any advice really appreciated.
Hi squisha,
If I were you, I would go to Colombo. The best hospitals in Colombo are Nawaloka Hospital and Asiri Medical Hospital. Hopefully, your husband gets better.

Hi
If you are planing to take your husband to the Kandy General Hospital. You better be take precautionary actions against Influenza H1N1; since there has been three deaths due to the virus.

I'm soo sorry to hear about him ..hope he will be ok..
in Kandy go to Suwa sewana( it is a private hospital) and check for dengue... the Platelet count have to be between 150k-400k .. if it is less than 150k admit him to a hospital..
I have had dengue when I was 13,... as doctors said in first 3 days after we have flu the blood report can't say weather it is dengue or not.. so if today's report says he is Dengue negative do a blood report again tomorrow... you can do a blood check any where in the country.
main thing is if you suspect him for dengue don't feed him things that are in darker colour (red, black brown)... coffee, chocolate ,beetroot or anything which is in darker colour...Reason is when someone have dengue internal blood flow inside stomach. Colour of the vomit and poo will give you a good idea if there any internal blood flow..but when u eat and drink dark colour food and drinks you can be sure about that..so until you know weather he is positive or negative to dengue keep him away from dark colour food and drinks.

I am sorry, I dont have any info to give you. However, to let you know that I hope everything goes well and please keep us updated. It is no fun to get sick in a foreign country.
