Hey guys, I'm planning to climb Adam's Peak at the beginning of January and was wondering which guesthouses are recommended. Looking at taking the standard Dalhousie route for sunrise. Also love a couple of comforts for the return eg breakfast, hot water, possibly even a massage.

Is it best to stay in Dalhousie itself or are other places (a la Upper Glencairn out of the LP guidebook) feasible to travel from? Do I need to book? I've heard the names Green House, Punsisi Rest and Chilled Out/Yellow House bandied around... any thoughts? Also rough ideas on price?

Cheers

As always very helpful! I will take your word for it but was there meant to be a link? The one in your message links back to this thread. Thanks for all of your really detailed responses all over this forum, I've had a look around and you're always there to help!

Cheers Rod - nice website and clearly they've got a quirky sense of humour... looks cool.

Is Upper Glencairn worth stopping off for for lunch or similar?

Rod,

Yeah just wondering as apparently Slightly Chilled is so good that it's already all booked out now for when I want! I think Upper Glencairn's in Dikoya, is it feasible to catch a taxi from Dikoya to Dalhousie at 2am? Sorry about all the questions...

David

Hello again,
Catching a taxi is quite possible but at 2 am, I wouldn't want to be relying on it. Unless the owners of the place your're staying in has a car or a brother with a car or something like that.
I've had taxi's booked at 6 am, to get to the airport from negombo and the guy turned up about 3/4 hour late and asked me where my car was.. Turned out, he didn't have a car at all, just assumed that he'd be able to borrow one.

There's one other place that I have the info for, a friend of mine stayed there and liked the place,
Thats,
The Green House,
Dalhousie,...............Tel; +94-(0)-51-2223956
Can't swear to the number but I think it's right.
Rod.

Hi there. I can recomend the River View Wathsala Inn. I think people are put off as it is (was august last year) the first guesthouse you come to when you reach Dalhousie, ie was the furtherest from the start of the parth; it is about 800 - 1000m to walk "down" which we found quite nice at 3.00am in the morning before we started. It may be a bit more $ than you may be wanting to pay... Nice rooms with hot water (need to let them know 20 mins before) and gave us a great meal the night before the climb. They also organised a guide for us. At 3.00 am in the morning however, our guide was waiting for us and told us he was very ill and couldn't take us but not to worry, we can take his "dog". I think we found possibly the best guide in Sri Lanka...went with us the whole way, early on we went to go the wrong way and he just stood and looked at us and didn't move until we went back and went the right way. I know, hard to belive. I'm sure the guy working there could organise a massage for you. When you will be there will be very busy, when we were there in off season only 9 people at the top, remember that. Enjoy

Just saw the posting.
What dates are you planning on going to stay at Adam's Peak?
If they are fully booked I am sure if you ask them they can book the Walthala or Green House for you.
