Please help. In most off my travels(including recent ones) I could easily average 5USD for accomodation and usually was more than happy with the places I chose. I know SL is more expensive so I hope up tp 10USD should be ok. I'd greatly appreciate any reccomendations in this price range for any of the following places: KENDY,DAMBULLA,POLLONARUWA, ELLA, HAPUTALE, BADULA, KATARAGAMA, TISSA, KIRINDA, TANGALLA, POLHENA, MIRISSA,AHANGAMA, UNAWATUNA and GALLE. I'll be traveling for about 6 weeks starting the end of January. Simple huts are a huge plus. I'm not a surfer but love swimming so any laid back place (quiet, with few backpackers, but definiately not crowded) with good beach and relatively calm water would be great. I hope that your suggestions will give me and others some good ideas where to stay. Looking forward to your replies and thanx in advance. Love and peace (isn't it all what we need, including people in SL?) Jan

Hi,
I have been a regular visitor to Sri lanka. In Kandy I stay at a place just outside the town, high on a hill, ( around 1km walk down or 'took too' into town). It only has two guest rooms and is clean, friendly. Normally around 1000rs with very good breakfast, own bathroom, balcony with great view and away from all the 'tourists'. You will like it. recomended e-mail framesps@yahoo.co.uk

Stayed in a lovely guest house in Ella RAWANA HOLIDAY overlooking ella rock close to junction in middle of village 50 metres down the road to Ella Gap. 1000 rupees or 1500 with balcony for the room and discount if you stay a few days. Great food.
In Tangalle stayed in guesthouse on east beach - forgot the name but 700 or 800 per room with balcony

both had mosquito nets and clean bathrooms ( en suite) -

No I don't, we had a tripple room so don't know single room prices, but is was quite cheap.

I think they were either in the roughguide or LP, don't remember exactly. They also served great food and had good bicycles to explore the historic city!
And you can bargain everywhere a little, cause so few tourists in Sri Lanka, or at least in october when I was there...
