simonhorowitz - Did you read the thread at the link I posted in #37? See post #16 of that thread:

Now in Kashgar. At least 2 groups totaling 5 travellers from the hostel I am at have been turned back by Chinese immigration at Tashkurgan - VOA from Pakistan is no longer possible. Another two girls from the hostel have been refused bus tickets to Sost at the International Bus Station.

If you don't have a visa, the Chinese will not let you pass Tashkurgan. If you are a gambler, then maybe you can try to get through with a document from a Pakistani tour operator promising to assist you in Sost, but it will need to look very 'official' to convince the Chinese immigration authorities in Tahskurgan.

No one on TT has reported on this method since the change to the VOA rule, so good luck if you try it.

This is bad news. I'm a US citizen that got the VOA from Sost via Kashgar/Tashkurgan in May of 2011 (right after the pass opened).

Unfortunately my Chinese (PRC citizen) girlfriend was denied exit by Chinese authorities but would have been allowed in according to officials in Sost.

At the time (May 2011) a Korean, several Japanese, a Polish, French, German, Austrian and an American all made our ways across at varying times, with varying fee schedules.

To bad for one of the highlights of my travels.

Sure it is very bad news for Pakistan tourism. Pakistan has stricken the visa policy a lot. Pak visas are granted only in home countries. They have stopped issuing them in host countries.

That's discouraging news indeed for the foreign tourism in Pakistan.
