Armed with our Pakistan visas, we are going to Amritsar next week to cross the border from India to Pakistan.

We would also like to see the daily ceremony. I understand this is around 3-5pm (India or Pakistan time) so we will aim to be at the border around midday to leave enough time for the formalities.

I have a few questions:

a) do we go through both immigration/customs posts first and then see the ceremony from the Pakistan side? I presume if we stayed on the India side until the ceremony is over, the immigration posts would be shut.

b) I understand bags are not allowed into the ceremony? We will have our large rucksacks with us as we want to go straight to Lahore after the ceremony. Is there any luggage storage facility at the border? Failing that is it possible to catch a glimpse of the ceremony without going inside the "no bags allowed" zone?

c) Is there a bus from the Pakistan side of the border to the centre of Lahore? I heard number 4 might go..

Many thanks,
camels

a)..yes you do have to clear both.
b)...No there isn't, but maybe the PTDC on the Pak side would mind them for you, for a few Rps.
c)...Not sure about this, I had my own transport, but the crowds must get there somehow !
Ceremony starts 5.30 Pak time.

You have to go through both the immigrations before witnessing the flag down ceremony.Agreed with UB that PTDC Motel might look after you luggage for few Rs but you could also take your luggage in to the crowd with out any problem.

There is a bus service from Wagha border to the city center (Lahore).
Stay in Lahore backpackers hotel on Regal chowk.
