Hello everyone and happy traveling! :)

I want to know if someone have travelled from Chilas to Islamabad via Babusar Pass. The path will surely be more beautiful as compared to KKH. I am curious to know how much time does it take..? more or less than KKH? is it safe enough? and is it open in late August?

thanks in advance.

Regards,
Adeel

Thanks K2. I checked from google maps and the duration was 4hr 32 min i also thought its too optimistic iven the rough terrain after jalkhad to babusar,

Securtiy is a big question as babusar is in kohistan area but if i have to go bvia road i might take this route on one side at least. Its beautiful and calm rather than kkh which is somehow ugly and much warmer in the start.

Any part of KKH between Islamabad and Gilgit (including Babusar Pass I think) is subject to delays due to need to travel in convoys with armed escort, unless you have a personal armed police officer travelling in your vehicle - this is usually available to people travelling with a licensed GB tour operator, according to my experience when travelling both ways up and down KKH in late May-late June, prior to recent terrorist attacks in Nanga Parbat base camp. Could be more difficult now, but can't confirm one way or another as am now back in UK. However, that was my understanding prior to 22 June. Maybe someone travelling from ISB to Chilas after that date can update on my info? For myself, I would say - no, not safe!! Don't go there!
