I'm 27 year old traveling alone, entering Pakistan next week from China, intended to go Chepurson and Shimshal. Just wanted to hear from some other travelers if it's safe - so I can calm my mother down :)

Here in Bangladesh--Longest natural beach in the world, archaeological sites, historical mosques and monuments picturesque landscape, chaotic cities, forest walks, rolling tea gardens, rich flora & fauna , enchanting colorful tribal life, river journeys, innocent rural life, distinctly different topography, flavors of food, color and festivity are all part of this exploration of Bangladesh

Well, I would share some facts.
According to Ministry of Interior, terrorist attacks reduced by 80% this year compared to last year. Its really fine these days in Pakistan, you just don't need to go to the towns near Afghanistan border where there is still a war going on in its last stages between Taliban and Pak. Army. In rest of the country its now really safe and we observe this positive change on daily basis. Ask anyone or research yourself. Would like to share a bit more for you.

Here I have collected something for you to read and learn about Pakistan.

This girl from Australia writes her experience in Pakistan, I would highly recommend to read as she very nicely explains the misunderstandings one might have about cultural differences; enjoy the pictures also ;)

Follow facebook pages about Pakistan, like

and you can search more on facebook, even ask people there.

Read some past posts by Humans of New York about Pakistan, as the admin for Humans of New York was in Pakistan this year for vacations, he writes his personal experience, highly recommended as its kind of an unbiased opinion from foreigners.

In the end, this one might be interesting for you when it comes to how Pakistan has and still improving its security situation and why. First time I saw a post about Pakistan in an Indian website which is positive. ;)

Go to couchsurfing, find people with the filter Pakistan and see the people who have been to Pakistan. Most of them (90%+) will add "Pakistan's visit" in the "most amazing thing I have done" question. I personally did this.

Happy travelling.

Thank you very much for quick replies. I know it is not 100% (nowhere in the world), safe but my friends had been to Pakistan recently and they felt quite safe.

The Chapursan and Shimshal Valleys are some of the safest places in in Pakistan. I wouldn't be worried about security at all in either of those areas, but you may find it very hard/impossible to access the Chapursan Valley. Since it's within thirty kilometers of the Afghan Border, technically you'll need an NOC permit, which may be impossible to get. I'd suggest just going and playing dumb, but being insistent about not needing an NOC and your desire to visit the area. Maybe you'll get lucky and the police will let you through.

Chapurson is very safe and open for all kind of tourists, no any NOC is needed to visit this beautiful valley but remember to register your passport at the police check post at Sost before you leave for Chapurson.

Happy travel

oldsilkroad, do have experience visiting the Chapurson Valley recently? An NOC was absolutely required the last time I in the area, and turned back trying to get into the valley. And an NOC is still definitely, technically, required to visit anywhere within thirty kilometers of the Afghan border. I've personally had this rule enforced twice.(I've also not had it enforced as well). If you've anymore detailed info it would be great to hear about it.
